“Pressure”: Kremlin continues to threaten Ukraine’s “reaction” to NATO entry

According to Dmitry Peskov, Kiev’s accession to the Alliance could have extremely negative consequences for Europe’s security architecture.

The Kremlin has said that the possible entry of Ukraine into NATO poses an alleged threat to Russia and will require an appropriate response. This was reported by the propaganda publication RIA Novosti, with reference to Putin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov.

According to him, Kiev is allegedly trying to “pressure” on NATO countries to show solidarity.

“Ukraine’s accession to NATO will have very, very negative consequences on Europe’s security architecture. As a NATO member, Ukraine will become a threat to Russia and a clear and decisive response will be required.”

Recall that on 10 July, after intense negotiations, the Alliance reached a consensus on the termination of the NATO Membership Action Plan for Ukraine. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed this decision, which, as he noted, will shorten Ukraine’s path to NATO. It is known that in September 2022, Ukraine applied for the accelerated procedure for membership in the Alliance.

Earlier on July 9, Kuleba said that a number of important decisions had been taken regarding Ukraine’s membership in NATO. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that the time has come to clarify this issue and that the NATO summit is the right time for this. He stated that the work in this direction continues and will continue until the last minute of the adoption of the NATO summit declaration in Vilnius.
