NATO Secretary General believes that the Alliance should provide more assistance to Ukraine due to the difficult situation on the battlefield. We need to convince Putin that he cannot win the war. The only way to achieve this is to increase military aid to Ukraine.
The only way to achieve peace in Ukraine is to strengthen Kiev’s capabilities by providing military aid. As long as the situation on the battlefield remains difficult, partners should provide more assistance to Ukraine. According to Ukrinform, this opinion was expressed by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg before attending the EU Foreign Affairs Council of Ministers meeting held at the level of defense ministers in Brussels.
“So far we do not see the desire of Russian President Putin to negotiate a solution acceptable to Ukraine. So the only way to achieve this is to convince Putin that he cannot win on the battlefield, and the only way to achieve this is through Putin.” NATO Secretary General said, “It is to strengthen its military capacity by providing support to Ukraine.”
Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that it is up to Ukraine to decide what conditions are acceptable for negotiations and that it is the responsibility of NATO allies to help Kiev defend itself. He believes that if NATO member countries increase their aid to Ukraine, the possibility of achieving an acceptable peace outcome through negotiations will increase.
Stoltenberg said that no one can say how and when this war will end. However, the situation in Ukraine is expected to be discussed at the meeting.
“I hope that during the meeting we will review the situation in Ukraine, where intense fighting continues. The situation on the battlefield is dire, which makes it even more important that we continue and increase our support to Ukraine. We cannot allow President Putin to do this. Stoltenberg said Ukraine should be a part of Europe.” He also emphasized that it must survive as a sovereign, independent state and that it is in our interest to support Ukraine.
Also on November 12, the President of Latvia called for the supply of more weapons to Ukraine. Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics said that the EU and NATO should prepare for a long war in Ukraine. Western countries have an obligation to respond to President Vladimir Zelensky’s call to provide more weapons to Ukraine.
