Shmygal said, “Why is this agreement important? It has become a standard. It is very important that the standard includes maximum guarantees for our state. And so it is… England will support Ukraine for as long as necessary during the aggression.”

He noted that the agreement with the UK covers all areas of cooperation: security, financial support and sanctions support. Ukraine has certain mutual and bilateral maximum guarantees that will be valid until Ukraine joins NATO.

“The signing of a security agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom ensures cooperation in all areas: on land, in the air, at sea, in political and cyberspace… This is a truly great support from our partner Great Britain.” Shmygal emphasized.

According to the Prime Minister, the agreement with the UK is just the beginning. Similar agreements with other countries should emerge over time.

The head of the Ukrainian government said, “Today, we are negotiating with our partners to sign similar agreements. Especially with the states that participated in the “Declaration of Joint Support for Ukraine” at the NATO summit in Vilnius. Among them are the G7 countries.” aforementioned.

Security agreement between Ukraine and England

On January 12, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a security agreement that will remain in force until Ukraine joins NATO. In particular, it envisages that in the event of a future Russian attack, the Kingdom will quickly and without delay provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance, including modern weapons to repel aggression on land, at sea and in the air.

Speaking at a telethon on January 13, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna described the agreement with the UK as a “historic decision”.

“For the first time in decades, an agreement on strategic, defense and military cooperation is being signed with the UK. This is a very important milestone. This decision will encourage other countries to sign relevant declarations,” Stefanishina said.

He emphasized that all security agreements will be different, but all these are a signal that Ukraine will enter NATO. The Deputy Prime Minister also said that Ukraine is preparing for a similar agreement with the United States.

Let us remind you that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that 2.5 billion pounds of military aid will be provided to Ukraine in 2024-2025.
