Minister Ruben Brekelmans described Russia as a powerful power capable of waging hybrid warfare for a long time.
The situation on the battlefield in the Russia-Ukraine war is still difficult. Therefore, we should not expect the war to end in 2024 or 2025. This was stated by Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans in an interview with LRT TV.
Ruben Brekelmans noted that Ukraine should provide as much military assistance as possible.
“This means we need to do more, but we also shouldn’t set our expectations too high because sometimes people think that the Russian invasion was a sprint that turned into a marathon. But in fact it was a 42km sprint, so we have to keep going. “Fight and provide support to Ukraine,” the minister added.
According to Brekelmans, it is necessary to look at the long term and ensure that European citizens continue to support Ukraine. He noted that there is no need to create false expectations “so that people do not get disappointed.”
According to the minister, Russia is a powerful state that wages hybrid warfare and can do it for a very long time. We should not forget that the Russian Federation is a nuclear power.
“The threats from Russia are diverse and we need to invest heavily to defend against these threats and deter Russia from further aggression,” added Ruben Brekelmans.
It is worth noting that the Netherlands allowed Ukraine to strike Russia’s deep rear with its weapons. Then Ruben Brekelmans noted that Ukraine has the right to use Dutch weapons to defend itself in accordance with international law and called on other states to lift restrictions.
Let’s also recall that the Netherlands announced a few months ago its desire to assemble and transfer Patriot to Ukraine together with other states. Since then, no other country has joined the project, so only its part of the Patriot anti-aircraft battery elements was transferred to Ukraine.
