According to the Ukrainian president, all occupied territories can be returned diplomatically, but the main thing is to get guarantees from Putin that he will not attack again.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky allowed the hot phase of the war to end, even if the occupied territories were not returned. He talked about this in an interview with Sky News.
According to him, an agreement on the cessation of hostilities can be concluded if the areas under Kiev’s control are brought “under the umbrella of NATO”. Later, diplomatic negotiations can be held regarding the return of the occupied lands.
“If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we must bring the territory of Ukraine under our control under the umbrella of NATO. It means,” said Vladimir Zelensky.
Separately, the Ukrainian president added that the ceasefire should ensure the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin will no longer take new aggressive steps and therefore seize more territory.
NATO forces will also have to “immediately” cover the part of Ukraine controlled by Kiev, otherwise Moscow will decide to take another step in aggression.
Trump’s victory in the elections: What does Zelensky think
The interview was recorded after Donald Trump won the US presidential election. Vladimir Zelensky noted that the White House should work together with the new president in order not to lose Ukraine’s biggest supporter.
“I want to work directly with him because there are different voices around him. So we do not need to allow anyone around us to disrupt our communication. This will not help and will be destructive. We must try to find a new model. I want to share ideas with him about a new model and I want to hear it,” continued Vladimir Zelensky .
The last time the Ukrainian President met with an American politician was during his visit to New York in September. Then the dialogue was warm, beautiful and constructive. New meetings are now being prepared.
Let’s remember, according to the news in The Washington Post on November 27, it was reported that Ukraine could be pushed into peace negotiations with the Russian Federation in just a few months. According to journalists, during peace talks Ukraine may have to give up some of its territory in favor of Russia.
On November 20, Vladimir Zelensky spoke about Crimea and negotiations with Russia. According to him, Kiev plans to return the occupied peninsula not through war but through diplomacy. The head of state emphasized that people will not die for this.
