Tusk says Macron came to Warsaw to talk about peacekeepers in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron held discussions with the Polish leadership, including on the situation in Ukraine. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said whether it is really worth waiting for the creation of a peacekeeping unit.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met with French President Emmanuel Macron and announced that political rapprochement has begun between the countries. This was reported at RMF24, citing a press conference held on December 12.

Macron arrived in Warsaw to discuss the geopolitical situation, the Russia-Ukraine war and cooperation with the Polish leadership.

“We are on the same side regarding the security of Europe and a just peace in Ukraine,” Tusk said.

He said the meeting was about Europe’s security and competitiveness, as well as Polish-French relations, the situation in Ukraine and actions for a just world.

Macron’s visit was considered an emergency. Rumors appeared in the media that he would enter into negotiations with Poland on the creation of a military unit that would ensure stability in Ukraine. We are talking about peacekeeping forces in case peace talks with the Russian Federation end in a ceasefire.

“I want to use this opportunity to put an end to speculation about the presence of troops of this or that country in Ukraine after a ceasefire, ceasefire or peace is achieved. The decision on Poland’s actions will be made in Warsaw and only in Warsaw. said Tusk.

He assured that such actions are not planned yet.

The Polish prime minister also said that his country bears the biggest burden on Europe due to the war in Ukraine. He noted that Poland also took responsibility for protecting NATO’s border with the Russian Federation and Belarus.

“Poland is the largest, key and only center providing assistance on this scale to Ukraine,” Tusk said.

He added that Poland suffered losses in the belief that it was necessary. Moreover, Warsaw is confident that support for Ukraine means actions aimed at the security of all of Europe.

Let us recall that the media reported that negotiations between Poland and France may concern the peacekeeping contingent that will stand at the border line in case of a possible ceasefire. An unnamed EU diplomat noted that we are talking about 40 thousand peacekeepers.

Military analyst Dmitry Snegirev in commentary Focus He described what tasks such peacekeepers could be responsible for, and political scientist Oleg Pasternak explained the purpose of such an initiative.
