FIFA is seriously discussing the postponement of the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar this fall, from 21 to 20 November, according to the Argentine edition of Diario Olé.
By tradition, since the 2006 championship in Germany, the opening match is played by the host side, it is with this fact that the intention of the organizers to postpone the start date of the championship is connected. Currently, before the game Qatar and Ecuador matches are planned: the Netherlands against Senegal and England against Iran. It is proposed to reschedule Qatar vs. Ecuador to November 20 at 2:00 pm ET and Netherlands vs. Senegal to November 21 at 11:00 am.
Such decisions can only be made on the basis of voting results, the heads of football confederations and FIFA President Gianni Infantino will take part in the voting procedure.
Recall that the Russian national team will not take part in the international competition this year due to the removal of clubs and national teams from international competitions by decision of FIFA. Under the leadership of Valery Karpin, Russian footballers made it to the playoffs of the tournament, but lost the lead to Croatia.
In July, the International Sports Court rejected the RFU’s appeal against the suspension of Russian athletes.
In March, in connection with the start of a special military operation to protect Donbass, FIFA and UEFA decided to remove Russian athletes from international competitions, because of this, Spartak Moscow lost the opportunity to play in the 1/8 finals of the Europa League, and the Russian team was excluded from the 2022 play-offs in Qatar. In May, UEFA suspended all Russian clubs and national teams for the 2022/23 season. Clubs will not be admitted to European competitions, and the Russian team will not participate in the League of Nations.
After the cancellation of international matches, representatives of the Russian Premier League planned to create a new football tournament in Russia – the League Cup, but on July 14 it became known that the RPL voted against this decision. Instead of the League Cup, an updated Russian Cup will be held.
