Boxer Gassiev about the fight with Welch: “My task is to win”

Russian professional boxer Murat Gassiev spoke about his attitude towards the American Carluse Welch, with whom he will enter the ring in Serbia on August 26.

“Since the beginning of my sports career, at the age of 17, I have not underestimated a single opponent. I take everyone seriously. Whoever he is – a world champion, a challenger, a beginner boxer, young or old. I never underestimate anyone and I prepare for fights with everyone equally. I am sure that my opponent is seriously preparing. Age, not age, he fought with the stars or not, only the fight will show“, – Gassiev emphasized in an interview with the publication”Sport-Express“.

At the same time, answering the question if he has any strategy, the Russian boxer noted that he is now in such a position that he must defeat every opponent.

“And if now it’s Carlos Welch, then it will be him, and then the rivals will improve, and the opposition will become more serious. I know how I can box, at what level to be. And now my task is just to take care of myself, my health, take the training process seriously and beat all the opponents that they give me.“, Gassiev added.

Please note that August 26 will show broadcasts of fights from Serbia and Yekaterinburg. On this day, Belgrade will host a unique tournament “Battle of the Kalemegdan Fortress”, dedicated to the celebration of the International Boxing Day by the boxing federations of Russia and Serbia.

It should be noted that Murat Gassiev is a former IBF (2016–2018) and WBA (2018) world heavyweight champion, as well as the current WBA Asia heavyweight champion. He spent 30 fights, of which he won 28. Gassiev’s last fight took place in July 2021. Then he defeated the German Michael Wallisch by technical knockout.

In turn, 42-year-old American boxer Carlusa Welch had 24 fights, 21 of which were victorious. In two duels he was defeated, and one ended in a draw. Welch is a former IBA World Heavyweight Champion.
