Former Russian gymnast Elizaveta Polstyanaya, who has represented Latvia in competitions since 2018, refused to continue to play for the national team of this country. Polstyanaya wrote about this in a letter to the President of the Latvian Gymnastics Federation (LVF) Evgeny Sapronenko, TASS reports.

Earlier, Polstyanaya announced on social networks that she was banned from competing for Latvia at the upcoming World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships (WCH) in September.

“The requirements put forward by the Latvian Olympic Union (LOV) and the decision of the Latvian Gymnastics Federation to remove me from competitions affected my psychological state. I need time to come to a state of emotional and psychological stability”– said the athlete.

The gymnast complained that because of the proceedings, her training process was disrupted, now she will not have time to get in shape for the competition.

At the end of the letter, Polstyanaya confidently stated that she no longer sees the opportunity to continue her sports career in Latvia and wants to leave for her family.

Elizaveta Polstyanaya was born in Latvia to a Russian family. The athlete began her career in Russia, but in 2018 she received Latvian citizenship and began to play for this country.
