Real Madrid and France forward Karim Benzema has received the France Football Ballon d’Or award. It is awarded to the best player of the season.

The award ceremony was held on Monday at the Chatelet Theater in Paris.

34-year-old Benzema won the Ballon d’Or for the first time in his career, thus breaking the long-term hegemony of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

In total, the striker spent 46 meetings for Real Madrid last season, in which he scored 44 goals and made 15 assists. As part of the creamy Benzema, he won the Spanish championship, the country’s Super Cup, and the Champions League.

Earlier it was reported that the Argentine footballer, forward of the French club “Paris Saint-Germain” Lionel Messi for the first time since 2005 was not included in the list of nominees for the award for the best football player in the world “Golden Ball”.

His main rival over the past years, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo made it to the final list, but in the end he took only 20th place.
