Mexico bids to host 2036 Olympics

Mexico has become an official candidate to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. The application has already been commented on by Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.

We consider ourselves a successful and ambitious country. We are the only country to have hosted three FIFA World Cups, we are a vibrant country with one of the best economies in the world“, Reuters quoted him as saying.

The minister stressed that on November 30, the establishment of a committee to promote the Mexican bid for the Olympics will be announced.

It is worth noting that Mexico hosted the Olympics once – it was in 1968. The competition was held in Mexico City from 12 to 27 October.

Earlier it was reported that in Seoul, at the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees, the best teams and athletes who performed at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2022 were awarded.

Applicants were selected by an international jury, which includes representatives from five continents. Russian athletes were not included in the selection, probably for political reasons: Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov, who won as many as five medals at the Beijing Olympics, did not receive the award. In order not to provoke an international scandal, ANOC representatives did not award Bolshunov’s main competitors either.
