How much money can a Mexican team take to participate in Qatar 2022?

On Monday, the Mexican team officially unveiled the roster of 26 players with whom it will take part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which starts in six days. When everything is ready, director Gerardo “Tata” Martino will be able to receive a large economic sum depending on the results they get in the competition.

A few months ago, the International Federation of Associated Football (FIFA) announced that there will be a record collection at this World Cup, meaning that there will be more prizes and money to be distributed. The supreme body will distribute $440 million. 40 more than at the last World Cup in Russia in 2018, and 112 more than in Brazil in 2014.

Quantity for the Mexican team

For participation alone, FIFA awards each of the chosen ones nine million dollars, but if El Tri can overcome the group stage, the amount will rise to $13 million.

Assuming that Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s men equal their participation in Brazil in 2014 and reach the fifth game (quarter-final), they will receive 17 million. Since the semi-final, the number has continued to rise, with fourth place receiving $25 million, third place receiving $27, runner-up $30, and champion $42 million.

The Mexican team has reached the 1/8 finals of the main football tournament since 1994, when the competition was held in the USA.

This edition has an added bonus for Conmebol countries. Since 2002, no South American team has managed to win the World Cup, so if it happens in Qatar in 2022, there will be an extra $10 million reward, just like Alejandro Dominguez promised.
