President of the Russian Premier League and Vice-President of the RFU Alexander Alaev told reporters about the possible transition of the Russian national football team from UEFA to the Asian Confederation.
He noted that the question should be addressed to the President of the RFU, Alexander Dyukov, since this is within his competence. However, Alaev clarified that although Russia does not participate in the competition, it remains a member of UEFA and continues to pay fees.
After that, he decided to answer this question not as a sports official, but from the point of view of a football fan. It would be much more interesting for him to watch Russian clubs and the national team in European tournaments, since the strongest teams play there. Alaev stressed that politics intervened here.
Recall that the Russian national football team does not take part in the final stage of the World Cup on an unsportsmanlike basis. The national team took second place in the qualifying group and received the right to play-offs, however, on February 28, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) suspended Russian teams and clubs from all international tournaments.
