State Duma Deputy Nikolai Valuev commented WADA’s statement on the inability to extend the sanctions imposed by CAS on Russian sports, which expire today, December 17.
Valuev noted that one should not rejoice after such a statement, the CAS restrictions can be lifted, but Russian sports will still remain under sanctions.
“In this whole story, WADA is still a state within a state. We are not deceived. A swallow in the form of an appeal by the US Olympic Committee regarding Russian athletes against this background can only be an element of the game. In general, this, of course, can be perceived as some kind of signals, but it’s not at all worth going out to the square with a festive orchestra“, – said Valuev.
According to him, now WADA declares that it is impossible to change the regulation, but people change it, so anything can be expected.
“And the rules are changed by people. The relationship of geopolitical processes with world sports has already been proven for certain and is beyond doubt”– said Valuev.
Earlier, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova said that Russian athletes would still not be allowed to compete with the flag and anthem, despite the fact that the CAS sanctions had been lifted. According to her, restrictions on Ukraine will apply instead.
Recall that WADA said that the regulations do not allow to extend the sanctions against sports in Russia, which expire on December 17.
