Following the dedication of Los Angeles Football Club to Major League Soccer (MLS) and the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Tuesday, the tournament released the official and complete calendar for the 2023 regular season.
MLS aims to “create a calendar of optimal service for our fans and at the same time promote a more direct viewing of matches”, for this reason it was decided that matches in 2023 will be played on Saturdays and some Wednesdays at the local schedule at 19:30.
The tournament kicks off next Saturday, February 25, with a match between Nashville SC and New York City Football Club at GEODIS Park at 4:30 pm ET. This will be followed by an El Trafico Rose Bowl derby between LA Galaxy and the defending champions LAFC at 9:30 pm ET.
This championship will feature a total of 493 games and will mark the debut of St. Louis City SC, the number 29 team in Major League Soccer. His first game will be on the 25th against the Austin.
Rivalry Week, the days when Major League Soccer classics are usually played, will run from May 13 to May 20, leading to the start of the All-Star Game on July 19 in Washington DC.
The 2023 MLS All-Star Game will take place at Audi Field, home of DC United, on July 19. The opponent of the Major League Soccer exhibition tournament will be announced at a later date.
Also notable among the new changes announced for 2023 is that 47 MLS and Liga MX clubs will compete in a completely reimagined League Cup: an annual Concacaf-approved month-long tournament.
This will be the first football tournament in which all clubs from the two major leagues will take part. The MLS regular season will be suspended after the League Cup matches on July 15 and will resume on August 20.
