A source close to the European Football Union told the publication that the head of UEFA, Aleksander Ceferin, is ready to allow the RFU to leave, and the AFC has the right to accept our federation. At the same time, FIFA will not lift the ban on Russia’s participation in tournaments under its auspices.

UEFA stressed that under the current leadership of the European Football Union, the RFU will find it difficult to return in the coming years.

In the spring of 2023, Ceferin expects to be re-elected for a new term, and now he is the only candidate. If he wins the election, he will be the head of UEFA until the spring of 2027.

Rumors about a possible transition of Russia to the Asian Football Confederation appeared in November. Russia needs to leave UEFA by the end of the year in order to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
