Enzo Fernandez’s pass fell: Chelsea did not meet the exorbitant figure requested by Benfica

Enzo Fernandes has caused the first drama of the winter market after arguably stalling his move to Chelsea in the Premier League. AndThe 21-year-old Argentine player will not come to the English club after there was no agreement with Benfica on the transfer amount.

The Portuguese team asked Fernandes for a $120 million contract termination clause and if it wasn’t for $120 million, he wouldn’t have left for less.. Chelsea offered a maximum amount of $85m but fell short of the buyout clause of the 2022 World Cup Qatar Young Player of the Year.

This increased the annoyance of the Portuguese club because they felt betrayed by Chelsea. German coach Roger Schmidt commented that what the English club did was disrespectful to the team and that they made Fernandes flustered.

“We don’t want to sell Enzo. There is a club that wants him, they tempted him, but they know the only way out is the 120 million point. They are disrespectful, they drive the player crazy. They acted like they want to pay for the reservation and then they want to negotiate,” the CTO denounced.

The player was also criticized after he returned to the club at the end of December and played the game at half speed in a 3–0 loss to Braga. where he was seen to be physically unwell after not training for two weeks in celebrations in Argentina following the World Cup.

Fernandez returned to Argentina after losing 3-0 to Braga to spend the New Year. a decision that the coach criticized because all the players were ordered not to leave the country resume training for 2023.

Benfica are top of the Portuguese league with 37 points from 14 games, followed by Porto with 32 points.. In the Champions League, they left PSG first and will face Brugge on February 15.
