UFC vice president Jeff Nowitzki has responded to accusations of Russian UFC champion Islam Makhachev of cheating.
Nowitzki said the Australian Combat Commission found no evidence of Makhachev’s unsportsmanlike activities, according to Sportskeeda.
At the same time, the commission has a rule that prohibits droppers for rehydration of the body. Therefore, if it were possible to prove the use of a dropper by a Russian athlete, he would be found guilty.
Recall that the fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski took place in the Australian city of Perth. Islam not only defended his lightweight championship belt, but also topped the UFC rankings, regardless of weight categories.
After the fight, Volkanovski hinted that Makhachev could have cheated ahead of their fight at UFC 284 and used special drips to restore the body’s water balance after cutting weight. Such a procedure is prohibited, since droppers with saline can be placed in order to hide the use of doping.
