Russian tennis players will be allowed to participate in Wimbledon only if they sign a code of conduct. Writes about it The Daily Mail.
On the one hand, athletes will not be forced to express disagreement with the policies of their country. But on the other hand, they will be banned from any manifestation of support, up to the demonstration of the national flag. Violations will be followed by sanctions, up to and including suspension from participation.
According to the newspaper, the initiative came from the organizers of the tournament. Last year they were fined a million dollars for not allowing Russian tennis players.
Recall that in March, the second racket of Ukraine in doubles Oleg Prikhodko opposed the condemnation of Russian athletes. According to him, “nationality does not matter.”
It is worth noting that even without such formalities, Russian tennis players have been playing in a neutral status since last year. At the same time, none of them did anything prohibited by the Wimbledon Code.
