Russian and Belarusian fencers will be able to take part in the upcoming international competitions. The corresponding decision was made by the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
According to the Inside the Games portal, the decision to allow athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to compete was made during an extraordinary congress, which was held today, March 10, in an online format.
The permit will come into force in the second half of 2023, and already in July, Russian and Belarusian athletes will be able to go to the World Fencing Championship, which will be held in Milan.
Another hot topic in the world of sports is the admission of Russians to participate in the Summer Olympics, which will be held in Paris in 2024. Until the IOC made a final decision on this matter, 72% of French citizens said they wanted to see athletes from the Russian Federation at the 2024 Olympics.
