Partly because of corruption: Morocco will host the 2030 World Cup instead of Ukraine

According to media reports, due to the war in Ukraine, FIFA representatives doubt that the Ukrainian side can properly provide the security and infrastructure for the upcoming World Cup.

Morocco will jointly apply with Spain and Portugal to compete for the right to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Previously, this trio included Ukraine as well as the countries of the Iberian Peninsula. This will be reported by Morocco World News.

At the Outstanding Achievements Ceremony held in Kigali, Rwanda, under the auspices of the President of the African Football Confederation, it was announced by Moroccan Sports Minister Chakib Benmoussa that the final applications of the candidates were made.

“This proposal, unprecedented in football history, will unite Africa and Europe, the northern and southern Mediterranean, the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds,” Benmoussa said in his speech at the ceremony.

Since 1994, this is Morocco’s sixth attempt to compete for the right to host the World Cup.

Morocco will replace Ukraine, which initially had to file a joint application with the two Iberian countries. However, it was noted that this was made impossible, in part due to a corruption scandal involving the Ukrainian Football Federation.

Due to the war started by Russia, FIFA representatives reportedly had doubts that the Ukrainian side could ensure safety and properly prepare the infrastructure for the upcoming World Cup.

Morocco’s participation is geographically appropriate. In addition, football is now experiencing a peak in popularity among Moroccans after the sensational performance of the national team of this North African country at the World Cup in Qatar.

At the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar, the Moroccan team unexpectedly advanced to the semi-finals, where they lost to France. As a result, Moroccans finished fourth in the consolation final, losing to Croatia.

Like Ukraine, Morocco has previously hosted a major football tournament – the African Cup of Nations in 1988. Ukraine hosted the 2012 European Championship together with Poland.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Greece, who submitted a joint application, and representatives of Latin America – Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay want to host the 2030 World Cup.

The location of the 2030 World Cup will be determined next year.

Previously Focus Shakhtar reported that 10 minutes before the final whistle, he took the lead in the match against Feyenoord Rotterdam for a place in the 1/4 Europa League. However, the Netherlands evened the score after defender Yaroslav Rakitskiy’s goal. The return match will be played on March 16.
