Russians will be allowed to participate in international taekwondo competitions

The World Taekwondo Federation allowed Russian athletes to participate in international competitions. This was told to TASS by the head coach of the Russian national team Vadim Ivanov.

“An hour ago the council of the World Taekwondo Federation ended. A decision was made to admit Russian and Belarusian athletes. The first start that will take place with them will be the World Championship in Azerbaijan”said the coach.

The championship with the participation of the Russians will be held from May 29 to June 6.

Earlier, the organizers of Wimbledon agreed to allow Russian tennis players to participate. True, putting forward the conditions. Also in March, the International Association of Athletics Federations World Athletics decided to restore the membership of the All-Russian Athletics Federation after seven years of disqualification.

Recall that in February 2022, the IOC recommended that international sports federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions. Almost a year later, on January 25, the executive committee of the committee spoke in favor of the return of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus, but in a neutral status. An exception can be made only by those athletes who support CBO.

So, according to the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, the removal of athletes on the basis of their passports does not correspond to the values ​​​​of the Olympic Charter.

In Russia, they condemned the interference of politicians in the affairs of athletes. The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin said earlier that attempts to dictate the conditions for the participation of athletes in international competitions are unacceptable.

Note that the Summer Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11 next year.
