Rodrigo Gus, Real Madrid’s Brazilian striker who brought his side a brace against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, celebrated his first goal with a characteristic celebration of his “idol”, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo.
“At first I thought about sliding on the grass, but I have a little inflammation in my knee and I can’t do it. Then I quickly thought of my idol Cristiano Ronaldo,” he told Movistar on the pitch at Stamford Bridge.
Rodrigo has a special idyll with the Champions League, a competition in which he scored 16 goals in 37 games.
“Until today, I don’t know how to explain it, but this is a very special competition for me. Every time I played, I did something special to help the team. I am very happy. I want to score more goals and win the Champions League more often,” he said.
“It’s great to be in Madrid, the biggest team in the world, and we have to reach the semi-finals, the final and win the Champions League. We have it in our heads, we have to play good games like now. We have come a long way and hope to continue in the same spirit,” he added.
The Brazilian striker admitted that Chelsea could have “scored 1-0 in the first half but Thibault was there again to save and then my two goals followed”. While waiting to see if he would measure me against Manchester City or Bayern, he assured me they were “ready for anything”.
