Historic victory: Ukrainian and Croatian wins in mixed doubles at Wimbledon (video)

Wimbledon 2023 is also the first Grand Slam final for the 30-year-old Ukrainian, who was previously in the top 10 in the WTA rankings.

The first champions were determined at Wimbledon on Thursday, July 13. 7th seeded Ukrainian Ludmila Kichenok and Croatian Mate Pavic won the doubles final against China’s Xu Yifan and Belgium’s Göran Fliegen. Video of the winning game published Official Wimbledon on Twitter.

The Kichenok-Pavich match lasted 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Wimbledon 2023 was also his first Grand Slam final for 30-year-old Kichenok, who had previously placed in the top ten in the WTA rankings. The last time the Ukrainians played in the Wimbledon final in mixed doubles was in 2005, when Tatyana Perebiynis won.

For 30-year-old Mate Pavic, former world number 1 in doubles, this is his sixth Grand Slam title.

In response, Elina Svitolina stopped short of the singles final at Wimbledon 2023. And despite beating Poland’s Inga Sventek in the 1/4 final, Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova was still stronger in the semi-finals.

Both sets ended in favor of the opposing team with the same score of 3:6, 3:6.

Recall that at Wimbledon for the first time in 146 years changes to the strict women’s dress code appeared. Now, one more problem for the participants of the tournament will be reduced.
