Bayer Leverkusen became the German football champion for the first time in history, defeating Werder Bremen at home in the 29th round of the Bundesliga, SE reports.

The meeting ended with a score of 5:0. Victor Boniface (25th minute, penalty), Granit Xhaka (60th) and Florian Wirtz (68th, 83rd and 90th) scored for Leverkusen.

Bayer became the German champion five rounds before the end of the Bundesliga. Previously, the club was one step away from the trophy five times, taking second place in the championship (seasons 1996/97, 1998/99, 1999/2000, 2001/02, 2010/11).

Leverkusen are in first place in the German championship with 79 points. The closest pursuers, Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, who have 63 points, have lost their mathematical chances of winning the Bundesliga.

Bayer became the 13th club to win the German championship since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963. Also the winners of the tournament were Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Dortmund, Hamburg, Wolfsburg, Cologne, Munich 1860, Werder, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Eintracht and Kaiserslautern”.

Earlier it was reported that the players of the Kaliningrad “Baltika” defeated the Grozny “Akhmat” with a score of 7:1 and set an RPL record in the 21st century.
