The right to host the Ice Hockey World Championship in 2028 went to France. This was announced at the congress of the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) held in Prague.

Let us note that France turned out to be the only candidate. Besides it, only Kazakhstan submitted an application to host it, but Astana later withdrew it.

I am very proud that the hockey family trusted us with this project, recognizing our ability to organize such a large-scale event“, President of the French Hockey Federation Pierre-Yves Gerbaut commented on the IIHF decision.

The championship matches will be held in Paris and Lyon. It is noted that France will host the tournament for the sixth time in its history, the previous time taking place in 2017, when Paris shared the championship with German Cologne. At the same time, the World Hockey Championship games will be held in Lyon for the first time.

Let us remind you that the 2024 Ice Hockey World Championship is currently taking place in the Czech Republic. In 2025, the competition will be held in Sweden and Denmark, in 2026 – in Switzerland, in 2027 – in Germany.
