Questions to Rebrov: Why did the Ukrainian national team lose its second match in the Nations League?

The Ukrainian team conceded goals in both halves. At the end of the second 45 minutes, the referee awarded a penalty for Nikolai Matvienko’s handball in the penalty area. And Tomas Soucek confidently converted the 11-meter shot.

In the second round of the Nations League, the Ukrainian team lost away to the Czech Republic. The home team opened the scoring in the 21st minute, taking advantage of a defensive error by Rebrov. Viktoria Pilsen midfielder Pavel Schultz blocked a cross from Wolfsburg midfielder Vaclav Cherny, who had received the ball after a poor stop by Nikolai Shaparenko in the penalty area.

After the first 45 minutes, the Czechs scored a locker room goal. Pavel Schultz scored a double. After several unsuccessful attempts by Ukrainian defenders to clear the ball from the penalty area, he was the first to grab the rebound: he took the ball with his first touch and sent it into the corner of Anatoly Trubin’s goal with his second.

Among the two goals scored by the Czech Republic, the yellow-navy team had a post and a goal. After the corner, Ilya Zabarny hit the crossbar first, then Vladislav Vanat completed Nikolai Shaparenko’s pass in the penalty area.

In the second half, the Ukrainians increased the tempo and created enough dangerous chances. The main threat came from Mikhail Mudrik and substitute Viktor Tsygankov. The Czechs played mainly to hold and made frequent fouls.

At the end of the half, the referee awarded a penalty for Nikolai Matvienko’s handball in the penalty area, which Tomas Soucek confidently deflected. With 7 minutes left in normal time, Georgy Sudakov reduced the gap with a cross from Viktor Tsygankov from the wing. Aleksandr Tymczyk could have equalized the score immediately after the goal, but Czech goalkeeper Matej Kovar stopped the shot.

Already in stoppage time, Sudakov – again after a pass from Tsygankov – almost saved the game, but the goalkeeper again came to the rescue.

Let’s also remind that the Ukrainian football player swam across the Tisza and signed a contract with a club from Belarus. Former goalkeeper of the teams “Dnepr” and “Victoria” from Sumy, Denis Shelikhov, signed a contract with “Slavia” from Mozyr.

Roma forward Artem Dovbik has also reportedly been included in the list of Ballon d’Or candidates. Last season, Dovbik scored more goals than anyone else in the Spanish Championship.
