Let us remind you that on January 29, CAS disqualified Valieva for four years due to an anti-doping rule violation.
A day later, the International Skating Union canceled the figure skater’s results at the 2022 Olympics and moved the Russian team from first place to third in the team figure skating tournament.
Despite the decision to disqualify Valieva, CAS found her testimony to be honest and credible, but “insufficient to justify” an anti-doping rule violation.
The prohibited drug trimetazidine was found in Valieva’s sample on December 25, 2021, but the test result became known only in February 2022, when Valieva competed at the Olympics. Previously, the skater named three versions of the prohibited substance entering the body: during lunch at her grandfather’s, from a contaminated supplement, or as a result of sabotage at the Russian Championship.
