Cypriot company Medier is suing “Iron Mike” and his company for allegedly reneging on a deal made in January to fight Jake Paul.
American professional boxer Mike Tyson was the subject of a lawsuit in London in which the Medier company demanded compensation of approximately 1.5 million euros ($1.59 million) from him for violating the agreement. According to the lawsuit, the former heavyweight champion broke his contract with Medier, who represents the interests of the Rabona casino, to fight blogger and boxer Jake Paul. Reuters writes about it.
Kirskaya Medier claims the deal was signed in January 2024, but Tyson canceled the deal in March, just as his fight with Paul was announced. Court documents show that Tyson cited Medier’s violation of its terms as the reason for terminating the contract, but the company denied those accusations and called Tyson’s actions illegal.
Medier’s lawyers said the real reason for the contract termination was Tyson’s desire to secure a better Netflix sponsorship deal for his fight with Jake Paul. The fight, which was streamed live on Netflix, took place in Texas last month and ended with a unanimous decision for Paul.
Tyson and his company Tyrannic have not yet responded to the lawsuit, and the boxer himself has declined to comment.
Let us remind you of the fight that 58-year-old Mike Tyson lost against 27-year-old blogger Jake Paul on the night of November 16. “Iron Mike” survived eight rounds and landed 97 punches, only 18 of which were on target.
Mike Tyson earned $20 million for stepping into the ring. In addition, he set a world record because almost 40 years have passed since the moment when Tyson entered the fight with Paul. “Iron Mike” has the longest professional career among the 111 former and current world heavyweight champions.
