Alfa Romeo Tonale lands in the US but changes name: Behold the Dodge Hornet Aug 17, 2022 18

called Dodge Hornet, and this is not a new model, as we assumed. In addition to the close family relationship between Dodge and Alfa Romeo for the “parent” group Stellantis, to suggest that Tonale and Hornet are twins separated at birth is an aesthetic: the designers mostly intervened at the front, where the air intakes at the ends of the bumper, the radiator grille and the light signature of the LED headlights were changed, and there were fewer of them at the back and in the side glass, so the relationship is quite obvious.

Minus aesthetic tweaks such as rims, interior color transfers (essentially the same as the Tonale) or stripes that can be applied to the roof, hood and rear as per customer requests to give the Hornet a more sporty look, The most important differences between the Italian SUV and the twin proposed in America are under the hood.and are clearly related to different approaches between European and foreign audiences.

TWO ENGINES, NO DIESELS AND LIGHT HYBRIDS

With an identity change, the Alfa Romeo Tonale becomes a Dodge Hornet. loss of diesel and mild hybrid engines, intuitively not “American”. The entry offer is provided by the Dodge Hornet GT, and at the top is the Hornet R/T hybrid fork:

The classic zero cent is covered in 6.5 seconds, the top speed is 225 km/h and the starting point is set at $30K (Tonale starts at just over €35K in Italy, but taxes must be added to the price in the US);
  • Dodge Hornet R/T under the hood is a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which, together with a 122-horsepower rear electric motor, gives the driver 288 horsepower and 519 Nm of torque. 100 km / h from standstill accelerates in 6.1 seconds, you reach a top speed of 205 km / h and in zero emission mode you can drive a maximum of 56 km (battery 15.5 kWh, it takes two and a half hours with Enter 2 to complete charging).

The Hornet R/T transmission is a six-speed automatic transmission that allows for the so-called PowerShot feature: an extra 25 hp. (including the advertised 288) for a maximum of 15 seconds. There is no lack of Brembo brakes and specific steering calibration. The price of the R/T version has not been disclosed, but Dodge dealers in North America have already begun taking orders for the R/T version. Delivery The first copies are scheduled for 2023.
