NIO launches battery replacement in Germany September 30, 2022 37

October 7th, NIO will officially land in Germany. On this day, the Chinese automaker will host an event to unveil new details of its growth strategy in the Old Continent’s automotive market. Meanwhile, NIO has already opened Germany’s first battery replacement station. With a small ceremony in Zusmarshausen, the first electricity exchange station was opened.

In fact, this station will be officially operational when NIO starts delivering the first electric vehicles to German customers. In the meantime, final tests will be carried out to ensure that it functions properly.

UP TO 312 BATTERY CHANGES PER DAY

This battery exchange station allows you to fully automatically replace a dead car battery with a charged one in about 5 minutes. According to NIO, this will be possible. perform up to 312 battery changes per day. The station occupies an area equal to two garages and can accommodate up to 13 batteries, which are charged with a power of 40 to 80 kW.

The Chinese manufacturer also explains that after each replacement, the batteries are always checked by the system for their working condition and performance. If there are no problems, they are reloaded and then used again. This battery replacement station, we recall, was produced by the new NIO plant in Hungary. In fact, the Chinese manufacturer wanted to invest in a plant in the Old Continent to build battery replacement stations for the European market. Recall that the automaker intends to install about 1,000 stations outside of China, most of which are in Europe.

So in about a week we might find out New Details on NIO’s European Expansion Plan. The event will also provide an opportunity to find out exactly which NIO models will be available in Germany, at relative prices. In addition to the ES8 electric SUV, the ET7 electric sedan should appear.

As we know, the manufacturer will pay great attention to the replacement of batteries, also for commercial reasons. In fact, in this way, NIO can decouple the cost of batteries from the price of a car, limiting customers’ initial investment, even if they then have to pay a monthly battery rental fee.
