Official Euro 7: strict standard valid for cars from July 2025 November 10, 2022 249

There European Commission today submitted a proposal to define Euro 7 standard to reduce emissions of pollutants by road transport and, in general, by road transport – the main source of air pollution in urban areas. The goal is to reach the level zero emissions as required by the European Green Deal”while keeping cars affordable for consumers and contributing to Europe’s competitiveness“.

The Commission explains that with the new standard they will drive on European roads. less polluting cars, vans, trucks and buses and air quality and our health will benefit.

The proposal concerns emissions from exhaust pipes, as well as from brakes and tires. It also contributes to the new stricter air quality standards proposed by the Commission on October 26, 2022.

Euro 7 will reduce road vehicle pollution, which will inevitably become a problem even after 2035 when all cars and vans sold in the European Union will be zero CO2 emissions. The Commission estimates that in 2050, one in five cars and more than half of trucks will still emit pollutants from the tailpipe. “Electric vehicles also cause pollution from brakes and microplastics released from tires.“.

• Goals: By 2035, Euro 7 will reduce NOx emissions by 35% compared to Euro 6 and by 56% compared to Euro 6. The amount of particulate matter in the exhaust pipes of cars and vans will be reduced by 13%, and in buses and trucks by 39%, and the amount of particulate matter in the brakes by 27%.
