How to launch an egg from space to Earth so that it does not break: instructions appeared on the web (video)

Sometimes it can take 3 years to bring a crazy idea to life.

A video created by a former NASA employee has already gone viral on the Web. As part of his experiment, Space decided to find out whether an egg could break after being launched into space or the stratosphere and returned to Earth.

Former NASA engineer Marc Robert was the author of the already famous video that he originally posted on YouTube. In this video, he showed his lengthy trials of sending an ordinary chicken egg into near space to see if it would break if dropped on a mattress from a very high place.

Robert assembled a team of like-minded people from his former colleagues at NASA to realize his idea, which is certainly not crazy, but certainly unconventional.

The essence of the experiment was this: The egg must be attached to a rocket-like vehicle and raised in a balloon to a height of 30.5 km above the Earth’s surface. So the ball should actually go into the stratosphere, which is technically not space because it’s still 70km away. After that, a rocket with eggs must be launched, which must be released into free fall at an altitude of 100 meters.

It would seem that there is nothing complicated in such an experiment. But it took three years for Robert and his colleagues to achieve success. During unsuccessful attempts, problems arose in both the balloon and the rocket itself that could not pinpoint the impact location, and the eggs did not always meet expectations. As a result, Robert contacted another NASA colleague who was involved with the Curiosity rover’s landing technology using a special lander in 2012.

Robert and his colleagues were able to achieve a positive result thanks to his friend’s help and long and strenuous attempts. The egg still managed to land successfully without breaking. Of course, it landed on a soft surface, not a hard one. This experiment proves not the fact of the possibility of a “happy” egg falling, but perseverance in achieving the goal always brings the desired result.

Although Robert’s video is 27 minutes, it has already been watched by 22 million people.

Focus He has already written about another interesting video in which scientists first recorded how snow monkeys fish to survive the winter.

As I wrote earlier, at the London Aquarium you can also see how stingrays have the ball no worse than football players. Focus.
