Microsoft Digital Defense Report: There are 921 hacking attempts worldwide every second

Microsoft reported that there are currently 921 hack attempts worldwide every second.. This number reflects the rise in attacks aimed at gaining access to user accounts across a variety of platforms.

This number is part of a report released by the company’s digital security division, which details that the number of cases represents an increase of 74% over the previous year.

This is one of the reasons that tech industry giants including Microsoft, Apple and Google are working together to create a new system that allows users to access their accounts without having to enter a password. Thus, they intend to eliminate the possibility that hackers can use vulnerabilities that allow them to gain access to the accounts of their victims.

“As long as passwords remain part of the equation, they will remain vulnerable,” said Joy Chick, Microsoft’s vice president of identity.

Tips to avoid being hacked

The Microsoft report also contains a list of recommendations prepared by cybersecurity experts that can help users avoid becoming victims of computer attacks.

The first of these, and perhaps the most frequently repeated by experts, is that people should avoid the practice of repeating usernames and passwords across multiple platforms. This is because if one of these platforms is breached, it will be easier for hackers to gain access to them and therefore your personal information.

The online services where it’s most important to avoid this are email, finance, and social media. In that sense, Chris Pearson, founder and CEO of cybersecurity company BlackCloak, explains that the best a user can do is to methodically and unhurriedly modify this information, prioritizing those that pose a greater security risk.

“Don’t change all the passwords you have. Focus on the accounts with the highest risk and the most damage,” he says.

One more recommendation To avoid having to remember each of the passwords a person uses, it is worth resorting to a key manager.which, in addition to creating a secure password, is also responsible for protecting it.

Finally, they emphasize the importance Enable 2-Step Verification as it provides an extra layer of security this can be the difference between an online service account being hacked or not.
