Bugatti, new supercar will be hybrid and powered by Rimac engine December 17, 2022 1

When Bugatti came under the control of Rimac, many thought the brand’s destiny would be to offer electric supercars. Instead, Rimac has been very clear about it, saying a few months ago that battery-powered models won’t be available until 10 years from now. In addition, no SUV models will be released.

Apparently, Rimac keeps this promise. In an interview with Auto Express, the CEO and founder of the Croatian automaker spoke a little about the path that led him to take control of Bugatti. Talking about the future Mate Rimac said that the next Bugatti supercar will be something special and will have hybrid system. Therefore, no full electrification.

However, the most interesting thing is endothermic engine which, according to what has been said, will have a very high potential. The engine on which Rimac he has been working for a long time. Even, according to the CEO, work on the development of the engine he left 2 years early that will come the official transfer of Bugatti under their control. The work that began when the Volkswagen Group and Rimac started talking about the Bugatti project.

The need for a new engine was clear to Rimac as Bugatti planned to retire its famous W16.

I think everyone will be amazed when they see what we’ve done. We started developing a new internal combustion engine two years before we acquired the company, which I don’t think anyone expected.

Bugatti W16 Mistral

For a company well known for its expertise in developing electric vehicles, the design of the internal combustion engine is certainly interesting. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what they have achieved as the Mate Rimac improves on the results obtained with this device.

Returning to the next Bugatti supercar, as well as the hybrid powertrain, it will be a completely designed car from scratch. Therefore, there will be no elements taken from previous Bugatti or Rimac models.

Very interesting details that make it clear what Rimac has exact plans for Bugatti’s next supercar. A model that is designed to impress enthusiasts. However, over time, there will be ways to learn more. The new Bugatti model will appear no earlier than 2024 or 2025. First, in effect, the automaker will have to finish production and delivery of the latest Mistral and Bolide.
