Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato – one of a kind, a unique model created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the collaboration between Zagato and the Italian brand. In fact, in 1921, a collaboration began between the two companies that led to the creation of TIPO G1. The plan was to create a two-door, short-wheelbase, carbon fiber coupe with a 6-cylinder engine in the most extreme version of the Giulia GTAm.
Zagato says that this project piqued the interest of one of his German clients which boasts several Alfa Romeo models in its collection, including the 8C Competizione, Giulia GTA and Giulia GTAm. The client, who then gave the green light to the project, asking however to start with the Giulia Quadrifoglio guide updated by Zagato in GTAm content to keep 6-speed manual transmission.
The result of this project, which began last year, is the car officially unveiled by Zagato today.
The starting point is famous Giorgio platform which was specially modified for this project (shortened wheelbase). The bodywork is obviously carbon fiber to limit weight as much as possible, brand new and shaped like a coupe. Zagato says he was inspired by the Alfa Romeo SZ models in designing this new unique car, from the 1961 Codatronca version that dominated its GT class in 1962-1963, to the latest SZ version, which had an Alfa Romeo-inspired front end. . new tone.
There is room in the car only for two people. Also in this case we find a lot of carbon fiber and, above all, a manual transmission, which is what the collector who is lucky enough to park this exclusive sports car in his garage wants. The design process was carried out with a request for support from the very beginning Alejandro Mesonero (Head of Design at Alfa Romeo) and his team. On the other hand, the concept, development and production of the car was carried out completely and autonomously by a Milanese studio without external support. The front end is characterized by the 3 + 3 headlight concept widely used on the new Alfa Romeos as well as on the SZ 90. The all-carbon cockpit offers another signature element of the brand with two humps on the roof in search of reduced height, improved aerodynamics without sacrificing internal ergonomics. At the rear, a truncated tail, a styling solution typical of the Zagato body, aerodynamic and visually very powerful.
As regards the engine, we therefore find 2.9L GTAm 6-cylinder biturbo engine able to deliver good 540 hp. Performance? Zagato did not disclose them, nor did he say anything about other technical characteristics of the car.
