Why LG Develops TVs, Washing Machines and Refrigerators That Track Their Owners’ Sleep Time

LG said it is working with artificial intelligence (AI) startup Asleep to create devices that can detect when their users are sleeping. The applications the South Korean company hopes to develop include televisions, washing machines and refrigerators..

The idea of working with Asleep is explained by the fact that it is a company that specializes in tracking people’s sleep stages. To do this, they use microphones that are close to the person, either from smart TVs or smartphones, so that they can pick up the sound of users breathing. This is the technology LG hopes to soon include in its entire line of devices for the home.

LG’s goal is that by collecting data on the hours of sleep of its users, your devices will be able to work automatically based on this information not to disturb people’s sleep.

They suggest that an example of this type of application can be seen in the case air conditioners that detect when a person is sleeping can change the temperature so that it adapts to the sleep stage you are in, so that you enjoy a more restful sleep. While other LG products, such as its line of air purifiers, may shut down if they detect that a person is no longer sleeping.

Both Asleep and LG are expected to be among the companies to showcase their technology products and services at the next Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2023. Las Vegas will take place in the first days of January. It is possible that both will show the public some of the products that will appear in 2023 and include this type of technology.

What is confirmed is that Asleep will show the API of its sleep monitoring system and will also show collaborations with companies other than LG.

For its part, LG is expected to showcase some of the latest products from its home range, which includes refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, ovens and modern minimalist dishwashers.
