Ukraine is developing a new air-to-air drone model to destroy kamikaze drones used by the Russian Armed Forces. Details of the GROSHI project were published in a video posted on the YouTube channel with reference to military expert Andrei Shvachko.
According to Shvachko, in the near future the Ukrainians will complete the development and begin to use drones to intercept air targets. We are talking about kamikaze unmanned aerial vehicles that are expected to hit the UAVs in Iran’s Shahed line.
“Their task is to destroy the Shaheds not above the city, but outside the settlements, for example, outside the city limits,” stressed Andrei Shvachko.
Ukrainian Air Force Command spokesman Yuriy Ignat said on the broadcast of Ukrainian Radio that Iranian Shahed kamikaze drones pose a threat to Ukrainians even if they have 100 percent air defense. As a rule, anti-aircraft missiles do not explode when they collide with a drone, but next to it, the striking elements damage the fuselage.
The drone’s warhead doesn’t always explode, and often the vehicle crashes with it. If the drone is downed over a city, explosives and Shahed debris can fall on buildings, cars and even people. According to Yuri Ignat, interceptor drones will be much better at fighting enemy drones, but so far he has no data on finished models.
