The service is currently free and allows you to monitor up to five selected subscribers.
Mobile operator Vodafone Ukraine announced the launch of a geo-search service that allows you to track the location of five selected contacts. Of course, users must themselves authorize such an action in the My Vodafone app after you send them the appropriate request.
An important detail: the operator does not use the Internet to track the location, but uses data from communication towers about the subscriber’s location. This means that location accuracy suffers greatly, but on the other hand, if your loved one does not have access to the mobile Internet due to a deduction in the account or lack of funds, then you will still know where he is and do not worry. in vain
Another “feature” of the service is that it allows you to see the location of a family member even if you have left the country. The important thing is that your loved one should be in Ukraine at this time.
You can activate the free (until February 25, 2023) geolocation service using the My Vodafone app. The contacts you select will receive an SMS asking you to confirm permission to monitor their phone. As soon as they are given, you will see the location of the person you selected on the virtual map in the application by clicking on their name in the address book.
Meanwhile, worried about privacy, the operator forcibly requests a monthly tracking permission by sending the appropriate SMS. Additionally, for privacy purposes, the company will deliberately “degrade” the geo search result to three kilometers.
Vodafone Ukraine started testing this service among five thousand subscribers last year. According to the company, requests for geolocation tracking were mostly sent by customers from the Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkiv regions and the city of Kyiv. Users most frequently searched for children, parents or relatives in temporarily occupied areas.
