Using a very powerful HiRISE camera, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took a photo of the planet’s surface from an altitude of 250 km, and NASA immediately assumed that this image resembled the famous literary and movie hero Paddington Bear.

NASA has announced that this photo of the Martian surface actually shows a buried impact crater.

What appears to be the outline of a bear’s nose is a circular crack in the surface, most likely associated with sediment settling on top of a buried impact crater. These deposits may be lava flows.
