Protection against drones and missiles: Thales will provide Ukrainian troops with a modern radar GM200

The radar can track air and ground objects up to 250 km away, and it can also be combined with the SAMP/T air defense system.

Thales international industrial group will produce Ground Master 200 (GM200) radar stations for Ukraine at the expense of France. French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu made this clear during a briefing, the recording of which was published recently. twitter.

According to him, France will sign an agreement with Thales on February 1. Then the producer will receive funding from a special fund to support Ukraine. It is assumed that soon the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov will visit the enterprise, where a radar station will be presented to him.

Sebastian Lecornu noted that Oleksiy Reznikov informed him in December 2022 about the need for such radars of the Ukrainian army. GM 200 should significantly improve the protection of Ukrainian airspace.

The GM 200 is a mobile air threat detection radar that is part of the Ground Master radar series. It is a container with equipment mounted on a truck with an 8 by 8 wheeled platform Multi-range radar track air targets within a radius of up to 250 km (up to 100 km in combat mode), as well as objects on the Surface.

The open architecture allows the GM 200 to integrate with other Ground Master systems, control systems and air defense systems. Also, the radar can be paired with the SAMP / T air defense system, which Ukrainian troops should soon receive from foreign partners.

On January 28, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive SAMP / T air defense systems and Aster-30 shells. They can intercept targets at a distance of up to 100 km, including ballistic missiles.

Earlier, they wrote that the Ukrainian army has developed a system that can detect airborne threats by sound at a distance of up to 7 km. The complexes, worth about 20 thousand hryvnia each, help monitor the movement of missiles and drones, about 600 units will be needed to create a reliable network to protect the sky.
