Nissan Ariya: 27 thousand km from the North Pole to the South 03 February 2023 0

nissan wants to demonstrate the potential of electricity, and in particular his Aria, through a concrete and extreme project, some of the details of which he has already mentioned in the past. Indeed, Japanese electric vehicles can handle travel 27,000 km from the North (magnetic) Pole to the South Pole. The Pole to Pole expedition will last 10 months and, if there are no hitches, will leave in March. This expedition is led by a team of Chris and Julie Ramsey (husband and wife) who are not new to this kind of problem.

For example, they were the first to complete the 17,000 km Mongol Rally in a Nissan Leaf electric car. Obviously, for this new expedition, Nissan has developed a special version of its Ariya so that the electric crossover can tackle any route.

SPECIAL ARIA VERSION

Nissan Aria has been configured by the technical specialists of the Japanese manufacturer in cooperation with Arctic Trucks, which specializes in equipping vehicles for polar expeditions. The exterior of the car has been strengthened, the suspension has been specially modified for off-road driving, and the wheel arches have been adjusted to accommodate 39″ BF Goodrich tires.

Thus, the Japanese crossover has been modified so that it can overcome glaciers, mountain passes and dunes in the desert. In this case, the power unit was not touched. Additional equipment also includes a drone with a launch pad located on the roof of the car.

Introducing this particular version of its Ariya, Nissan also explained how the car will be able to charge in polar regions. In this way, electric generator prototypetowed, which includes wind turbine and solar panels. Thus, it will be possible to use strong winds and many hours of daylight in the polar regions to generate electricity to recharge the car.

Generally, marketing initiative of course, it is curious that it will still allow the mechanics of a Japanese electric crossover to be whipped in extreme conditions. It will also be interesting to see how this prototype generator with a wind turbine and solar panels will work. Chris Ramsey commented:

With our adventures, we want to demonstrate the great potential of electric vehicles. We take stock cars, make strictly necessary modifications, and then put them to the test. We did the same with the Nissan Ariya. The special Pole to Pole version is not much different from the standard version, but we needed more powerful suspension and comfortable 39-inch tires.
