A new strange structure has been discovered in space that has intrigued scientists: what is its specialty?

Using ground-based radio telescopes, scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have discovered a previously unknown space bubble located within the Barnard 18 nebula and then within the Taurus Molecular Cloud, a region of young stars forming. It is the closest star forming region to us.

Scientists believe the previously invisible bubble likely formed from surrounding gas as two new stars formed and grew inside it. For only the second time in history, scientists managed to detect such a bubble associated with the release of matter during the growth of a star. The newly discovered structure could help scientists learn more about how stars affect their environment as they grow.

What do the stars look like?

The emergence of stars is a rather complex and long process. It all starts with a dense cold cloud of gas and dust, including hydrogen. At a given time, this cloud narrows

under the influence of its own gravity and is pulling more and more the surrounding matter. As soon as this object gains sufficient mass in its core, hydrogen production begins and a protostar appears.

Still very young, this star continues to pull on surrounding matter to increase its mass and size. But some of the matter returns to space in the form of astrophysical jets. Additionally, protostars create a stellar wind that creates large gaps in the molecular cloud from which they were born. Scientists believe that all these ejections of matter play an important role in the evolution of a young star, as well as in the evolution of the interstellar medium.

Because molecular clouds are so dense, it is very difficult to see how the star formation process takes place. The Barnard 18 nebula, where the emergence of new stars takes place, is very dark because it does not emit or reflect light. In optical observations, it appears like a dark spot, almost like a void in space. To see what was happening there, Chinese scientists used ground-based radio telescopes. As a result of their observations, they discovered the presence of a previously invisible bubble inside the nebula.

Initially, scientists did not know what caused its appearance. The scientists suggested that although not a single star was seen inside the bubble, it most likely appeared due to the activity of a young star. Later, scientists found several young T Taurus stars, most likely moving a little further away from the balloon into space. Scientists say that these stars, which are about 1 million years old, are still in the process of formation, but ejecting matter from them about 70,000 years ago caused a strange structure to appear in the Barnard 18 Nebula.

Scientists say the new discovery demonstrates the ability of T Tauri stars to have a profound effect on their environment.
