Russia cuts off mobile internet in occupied part of Lugansk region, – OVA

According to Sergei Gaidai, the invaders are afraid that Ukrainian troops will find their place on the mobile network.

On February 11, the Russians turned off mobile internet in the occupied part of the Lugansk region. The press service of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported this on Telegram.

The occupiers are trying to restrict Ukrainians’ access to information using the MKS mobile operator. Mobile internet disappeared in some settlements in the region last week and is now not available in all occupied areas. At the same time, the operator kept the same subscription fee for the service package.

“It continues to give the population push-button phones and go back 20 years,” the OVA said.

As the head of the Lugansk OVA, Serhiy Gaidai, explained in the broadcast of the telethon, Russian troops are afraid of information leaks and therefore try to prevent Ukrainians from finding barracks, troops, hospitals, ammunition depots using a mobile network. All this is happening against the background of increased attacks and the arrival of a large number of reserves of the RF Armed Forces.

“Mobile communication is intermittent. People are in an information vacuum,” he told Telegam.

The Luhansk OVA also reported that Russians massively searched Ukrainian schoolchildren and checked their smartphones. They search for Ukrainian-related content on their device.

Readers reported FocusThat the mobile Internet in the occupied part of the Luhansk region has not worked for six months – since the summer of 2022. At the same time, operators still charged a fee for the service.

On February 10, Sergei Gaidai said that the Russian Armed Forces intensified the shelling and pulled heavy equipment to Kremennaya. According to him, the invaders decided to flee from the Lugansk region towards the city of Port in Donetsk.

Earlier, experts said whether operators will increase tariffs for mobile communications and Internet in Ukraine in 2023. Companies need to raise prices to pay for better coverage and installation of new equipment, but consumer finance must also be considered.
