Swim in the pool: India prepares for the first manned flight into space (photo)

India plans to launch its first manned spacecraft in the near future.

India’s most important space mission, after a series of failures and delays, seems to be heading home. Space is testing India’s Gaganyan spacecraft, which will make India the fourth country to launch a manned mission into near-Earth space after a crewed flight into space.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has resumed a series of tests of the Gaganyan spacecraft prototype. The Indian Space Agency, together with the Indian Navy, conducted a test to pull the prototype spacecraft out of the water after landing. Everything took place in a closed room with a swimming pool. This test basin is located in the southwestern Indian city of Kochi and is where all the real conditions of the marine environment are created.

IOKI has been conducting tests for India’s first manned spacecraft flight for many years. It all started in 2014, then the Covid-19 pandemic interrupted the tests and only returned to them in 2021. During this time, the launch vehicle’s systems and engines were tested.

As part of a recent controlled environment test, scientists began rehearsing the rescue of the Gaganyan module and crew after they landed in the ocean at the end of the mission. The prototype crewed spacecraft module has the same mass and size as the real one. So far, the tests are being done without astronauts, but they will also participate in the tests in the coming months.

It is worth noting that NASA also conducted similar tests before the Orion spacecraft went into space as part of the Artemis 1 moon mission last November. Then this information came in handy when we pulled this ship out of the waters of the Pacific Ocean in December last year.

For the first time, planned manned space flights and the actual Gaganyan mission in India were reported in 2007. If India succeeds in sending the first manned spacecraft into space, it will become the fourth country in the world to do so, after the United States, China and Russia.

The Indian Space Research Organization had originally planned to send a manned ship into space as early as December 2021. Then the mission was postponed to August 2022, but it was later learned that this historic flight for India will take place at the end of 2024.

Before the astronauts fly into space with the Gaganyan spacecraft, IOKI plans to perform two unmanned launches into low Earth orbit. According to the announced plans, this should happen at the end of this year and the beginning of the next year.

As already written FocusSpaceX recently performed a performance test of the engines of the Starship heavy rocket, which will go into space for the first time in March. If this happens, then this missile will become the most powerful employee in the world. So far, the palm belongs to the NASA rocket that successfully sent the Orion spacecraft to the moon.

If we talk about another space country – Russia, then for the second time in a few months the spacecraft crashes in orbit. This time, as mentioned before FocusFor unknown reasons, a malfunction has occurred in the Progress cargo spacecraft, which is now docked with the ISS.
