“Smart” air defense system will protect against drones, even if they are not seen by radar: what is the secret

Most modern air defense systems cannot detect civilian drones due to their small size and inconspicuous materials, but French engineers have solved this problem.

French company MC2 Technologies has developed a new multi-level DNA-Drone system to combat drones. Army Recognition showcased its solutions at IDEX 2023 in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

The DNA-Drone air defense system consists of 3 blocks connected to each other via the command center. It is designed to detect, identify, classify and neutralize aircraft by maintaining the sky over protected objects.

As MC2 Technologies points out, commercial drones pose a great danger, but most ground-based air defense systems are unable to detect them due to their slow speed and weak radar signature. To solve this problem, the developers implemented a super high frequency (W-band) radar in the DNA-Drone that combines Doppler and micro-Doppler analysis and an RF identifier that can detect small civilian drones using special algorithms.

When one or more drones are detected, the second DNA-Dron blocks communication between the UAV and the control station. This technology is activated automatically or at the operator’s command via the MC2 Technologies software. With a successful crash, the drone loses control and cannot continue the mission. Judging by the picture, this task can be performed by an anti-drone weapon.

EDGE introduced the Skyshield anti-drone system at IDEX 2023. It is equipped with sensors, radars, cameras, direction finders and jammers to monitor space 360 degrees and intercept signals. Such complexes can be installed on military or civilian trucks and easily transported from place to place.

Previously, experts selected the four most effective technologies for combating civilian drones. They allow you to disable drones and even destroy them remotely.
