Bentley, goodbye W12. Production will end in 2024 February 22, 2023 17

Latest Bentley W12 it will be the one from Batur that he can count on 750 HP and 1000 Nm of torque. In fact, the British automaker reported production end date its 12-cylinder petrol engine. The construction of this block is planned to stop as of April 2024 when more than 100,000 copies of the engine will be produced under the English brand.

The W12 could not be called a “regular” gasoline power plant. For this reason, Bentley has developed its latest evolution, which, as mentioned at the beginning, will find its place in the Batur model, which will be built by the Mulliner division in just 18 examples. However, the announcement of farewell to the 12-cylinder engine is not too surprising, given electrification project British car manufacturer.

In fact, the Beyond100 plan calls for Bentley to be an all-electric brand by the start of the next decade. A process that has already begun with the launch of the Bentayga and Flying Spur Hybrid. When production of the W12 ceases next year, the British marque’s entire range will be available in a hybrid variant. 30 specialized engine design technicians will be relocated within the company.

The history of the Bentley W12 6-litre twin-turbo engine began in 2003 when the unit was first introduced. Since then, the engineers of the English brand have constantly improved performance in terms of power, torque and emissions. According to the automaker, over the past 20 years, power has increased by 37% and torque by 54%. Instead, emissions were reduced by 25%. With the launch of the Bentayga in 2015, the W12 has been completely redesigned from the base model and is now used in the range of the English brand.

Each W12 takes approximately 6.5 hours to assemble by hand, after which it is subjected to a rigorous testing protocol. The special W configuration, explains Bentley, has resulted in an engine that is 24% shorter than the equivalent V12. Models with the W12 engine will be available for order until December 2023. The W12 powertrain line will be dedicated to the production of V8 and V6 Hybrid units. Adrian HallmarkBentley CEO commented:

Our progressive path to sustainable luxury mobility means making changes in all areas of Bentley. When we first launched the W12 in 2003, we knew we had a powerful engine that would propel our cars and brand forward into the future. After 20 years and over 100,000 W12s built, it’s time to retire this iconic powerplant as we make the leap towards electrification, but not without giving it the best salute with the most powerful version ever made.
