New Hyundai Kona, for electric autonomy up to 490 km March 07, 2023 0

Hyundai unveiled the design of the new Kona last December and then shared details on the new model in January. Now the Korean automaker has decided to provide more information. 100% electric versions. As for marketing in our market, endothermic models will appear in the summer (between June and July), and electric ones in September.

There is no pricing information for our market yet. However, it is easy to imagine that the second-generation Hyundai Kona will cost a little more than the current model.

DESIGN AND INTERIORS

New Hyundai Kona Electric measure Length 4355 mm, width 1825 mm, height 1575 mm, wheelbase 2660 mm. We have already seen the design of the new model several times. We remind you that electric models will differ from endothermic ones primarily at the front level with a different bumper design and an LED strip that crosses the entire hood and tailgate called Seamless Horizon Lamp, which in the electric model has pixels. Cx 0.27.

For N Line installations there will be a special body kit to give more grit to the look of the car. The large dimensions of the car are reflected in the cabin, which has become more spacious. In addition, the load capacity increases to 466 liters. Compared to the current model, we find a lot more technology. In particular, I stand out two 12.3″ screens present on the dashboard, one for the instruments and one for the actual infotainment system which also supports OTA updates.

The electric model can also count on Vehicle-to-Load Technology (V2L) which allows the vehicle to power external electrical devices using the energy contained in the traction battery.

ENGINES AND SAFETY

The new generation of Hyundai Kona Electric will be offered in two variants. The first has 114.6 kW power unit with 255 Nm of torque powered by a 48.4 kWh battery. For this model, the automaker claims range 342 km (VLTP). Instead, the top version can count on 160 kW electric motor with a maximum torque of 255 Nm. Everything is powered by a 65.4 kWh battery. The maximum mileage per WLTP cycle is 490 km.

Hyundai has not declared the maximum peak power for recharging batteries. The automaker limited himself to making it clear that from a powerful DC speaker, the battery goes from 10% to 80% of the charge in 41 minutes.

Speaking of other engines, the new Hyundai Kona will continue to be offered in a hybrid version with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 141 hp, the same as in the current generation. There will also be a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder T-GDi (also a mild hybrid) with 120 hp. More information about endothermic engines will come later.

With regard to driver assistance systems, we find particularly comprehensive equipment that includes, among others, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Collision Prevention (BCA), Intelligent Speed Limiting System (ISLA), Driver Assistance. Attention Warning (DAW) and High Beam Assist (HBA). This new model also has Status Monitor Drivers which uses an internal camera to analyze the driver’s face. If the system detects drowsiness or inattention on the part of the driver, it will alert the driver to a potential hazard.
