Ukraine produced new anti-drone weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine: they cost 480,000 UAH (video)

A complex suppresses helicopters and reconnaissance drones within 6 km, increasing the survivability of fighters by 70%.

Ukrainian company Piranha-Tech introduced domestically produced anti-drone weapons. The developers announced the details of the project at a conference held at the Ukrinform press center.

The anti-drone complex consists of a weapon with additional equipment and a backpack. As Piranha-Tech representatives have shown, the radiation emitted from the weapon suppresses the control signals and telemetry of the UAV, forcing it to return to the landing or take-off point, if the UAV has such a design.

The Speka portal reports that the cost of a weapon covering three frequency bands is 480 thousand hryvnia, and for 5 bands – 580 thousand hryvnia. The efficiency of defeating drones is almost 80%.

“An anti-UAV weapon is a collective weapon. According to statistics, the survival rate of personnel increases by about 70% if they are in the unit,” said Yury Momot, First Deputy General Manager of Piranha-Tech.

He added that after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion, the company was able to quickly move production from Krivoy Rog to Drohobych and set up production for the army. In addition, engineers installed in the city the first unmanned aerial vehicle system “Closed Sky” in Ukraine.

The system consists of radars, Piranha 20BSP radio jamming stations, anti-drone weapons, electronic warfare systems against unarmed and attack drones, and a control center that allows you to monitor threats. The pilot project started in October 2022 and currently the technology is maintained by Dorogobych, Truskavets, Strii and Borislav. Closed Sky works well against commercial and reconnaissance drones, but is currently useless against kamikaze drones like the Shahed-136.

The system as a whole detects UAVs up to 20 km, accurately positions them at 6 km and suppresses them at 4 km. Piranha-Tech engineers are trying to increase the Covered Sky coverage to 30 km, but this will require 1.8m euros. A separate complex worth 5 million UAH was built for the army, it is designed for a troop division and allows you to close part of the front within a radius of 6 km. They are delivered to the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Troops and National Guard.

“The guys who work with these complexes are very grateful and say they’ve already saved multiple lives,” said Taras Kuchma, Mayor of Drohobych.

Weapons against drones in Ukraine are also made by Kvertus. The KVSG-6 complex, which is actively used by the Ukrainian army, suppresses most existing unmanned aerial vehicles.

Soldier and radio technologist Sergei Flash talked about the dangers of anti-drone weapons to the health of soldiers. He noted that the frequencies at which such devices operate can affect the body, especially the brain, if they are used too often.
