RadiciGroup, research and innovation for the automotive sector March 15, 2023 0

Cars have a lot of research and technology, not only in terms of infotainment and powertrain, but also elements that are often overlooked. We are talking about, for example, the keys that we find in the cabin, seats, armrests, upholstery and floor mats, as well as “invisible” elements such as connectors, cable covers and much more. . In short, many elements of cars that we often interact with every day, unaware of the great work behind their design. In fact, these products are made from polymers, threads and plastics specially developed after extensive research and testing. Among the most important companies involved in the production of these components, which are then used in the automotive industry. there is RadiciGroup with whom we had a conversation in the past on the topic of recycling.

ITALIAN PERFECTION

RadiciGroup has a long history. It all started in 1920 when Pietro Radici he founded a company that at that time was engaged in the sale of textiles, which he eventually began to produce. In 1960 important news arrives. Indeed, the company is starting to further diversify its activities by launching polymerization of polyamide 6which represents the entry into the chemical business with the aim of vertically integrating wool.

In 1970, the production of polyester began. However, in 1980, the production of chemical intermediates and the polymerization of polyamide 6.6 began. Thus RadiciGroup enters the engineering plastics sector; starts engineering business and energy production from renewable sources. Over the years, the company has paid more and more attention to the development of environmentally friendly products.

It goes like this until 2023, with the third generation of the Radici family at the helm of the company. Today the company can count on approximately 3,000 employees and a network of more than 30 production and sales offices in Europe, America and Asia. In 2022 turnover amounted to 1,542 million euros.

Mobility is developing rapidly. Together with partners, the company conducts research and innovation to develop solutions to meet future challenges such as reducing emissions, moving towards increasingly electric and sustainable mobility and reducing the weight of vehicles.

RadiciGroup’s offer is very broad, from technopolymers for high performance components to synthetic fibers and nonwovens for textile coverings. Versatile and high performance products, as well as efficient and sustainable.

In particular, technopolymers they are ideal for the production of components that require lightness, as well as chemical, mechanical and high temperature resistance, and are excellent substitutes for metals. Synthetic fibers for cars from yarn or staple, they make it possible to create numerous textile products for cars, such as seats, floor mats and covers. Instead of, nonwovens they are ideal for exterior protective coatings and interior soundproofing, air and fluid filtration systems. These components are made with innovative materials that can be added to provide specific performance.

Themes of sustainability and circularity very important to this Italian industrial excellence. For this reason, the company works in several directions, such as, for example, the continuous expansion of the use of materials from bio- and renewable sources, the study and implementation of technologies for the restoration of end-of-life products, cooperation with customers to develop products designed according to ecodesign guidelines. and continuous improvement of production processes to reduce CO2 emissions.
